Shapes on a Screencastify

In room five we have been learning about 2 D shapes and we learnt what a trapezium was and lots of other shapes. Last week we were told to make a screencastify in buddies and the next week Annabelle and I were buddies.Annabelle and I will tell you about 5 other shapes in our screencastify.

Describing Writing

In class we have been learning about how to describe in our writing and we had to include precise nouns, adjectives and we had to extend our sentences so that they are not like the man was walking into the shop. We also had to made shore that we are using present tense so it's like what is happening right now not what has happened.

As I stroll into the shop I see a young lady sleeping on the scarlet red counter lying opposite the other lady that looks as board as a bee with no flower to pollinate. The ladies slouching in the chair look like they just want to leave, go home, lie in their beds and close up for the day.

I am in the shop and I feel as if a am drowning in a colourful plastic ocean. From top to bottom the shelves are packed with fluorescent coloured toys but the planes and cars are dull white and there are some black and brown plastic toy guns that are at the back of the shop hanging from a wall. The lady types and makes an annoying clicking noise on her grey computer as I am gazing at the toys so that I can pick out the toy that I like. When I look around it is very hard to pick out a toy because there are so many different types of toys to choose from.I feel frustrated because I can’t pick just one toy out of at least one thousand.

I feel annoyed about plastic and sad for the animals because plastic kills all the animals in the sea and we are destroying their homes. I wish that plastic didn’t exist in the world so that all the animals in the sea would be still alive but because of us nearly all the animals are dead.

The Plastic Mountain

In room five we have been learning to describe a moment in time. We wrote about this picture. We had to imagine that we are one of the kids working there. Our success criteria were to write in present tense, extend our sentences by adding more detail and use our senses, sights, sound, feeling and sensations.

As I gaze around I spot a mountain made of a variety of  different coloured plastic bottles and right under the brown dusty bridge are big black sacks that are also filled to the brim with lots of coloured plastic bottles. When I walk around the sound of cracking invades my ears. There are woven dark brown and light green baskets to separate the transparent bottles from the light green ones. A silver car zooms by and the smell of exhaust fume floods my nose and it is disgusting.

There is a lady sitting down in the corner with a silver knife to take off the labels on the transparent bottles and green ones. A young girl is walking through the plastic bottles in her dirty top and pants. The young boy in  front of the black sacks is taking off the plastic bottle labels.

There is a lot of noise coming from the back of the big black bags from people walking around the shops and talking. Will it ever stop? I ask myself. The people are being too noisy. That noise is distracting the other people who are working hard to get money. They look like they are panicking because all that noise is distracting them so they think they won't get all the labels off the bottles to get money.

Jenny Sommmervell

On Tuesday the 28th of August an author named Jenny Sommervell came to our school. Jenny Sommervell told us that it takes a lot of work to write a story, first you have to  think of what your story is going to be about, then you need to do little bits at a time like first the title of the book, then the introduction, then you can do the start of the story next the middle of it and the end. She showed us a life cycle of an eel, they start as eggs then they are called larva, next in the life cycle  is the glass eel then it is the elver, last it is the adult eel. Some of the books that she has written are The Day Dad Blew Up The Cowshed and The Eel Hunt , they are all great books.

Symmmetry

In room five for maths we had to fold a square piece of paper and then we had to draw straight lines with a ruler on the coloured paper from the fold. We had to make shapes that had three sides, shapes that had four sides and shapes that had more than four sides. Then we put all the shapes on a a black piece of paper and on each piece of paper there was a different type of shape. The symmetry line splits the shape into two parts and the two parts have to be equal. The symmetry line is in the middle and it is there because the symmetry line was  where  we folded the paper. For me Bella,Annabelle and Amelia the threes were the hardest to make and the fours were the easiest to make.
